7. Shanahan's Stamp Auction 1959 Catalogues (x 2) Dr.Paul Singer and the Shanahan Stamp Auction scandal rocked the Irish Establishment back in 1959 and cost thousands of people their life savings. Essentially a pyramid scheme it worked a treat for some years before a mysterious robbery brought the whole edifice crashing down. Singer was selling more than stamps, he was selling a lifestyle of riches that everybody aspires to - the sale titles on the catalogues tell you all you need to know. The extremely rare, profusely illustrated catalogues are in excellent condition and will only increase in value. Only the outer paper covers are rippled; the contents are heavy gloss paper.€50 |
